VOICE 2008 : Fourth Prize
Georgian soprano Anna Kasyan began her musical education at the “School for precocious children” in Tbilisi (Georgia). At the Tbilisi State Conservatoire she studied the violin, the piano and singing, moving then to Paris in 2003, where she joined the “Ecole normale de Musique Alfred Cortot”.
She made her operatic debut as Rosina (Il Barbiere di Siviglia) at the festival “Opéra en Plain Air” in Paris and on tour in Ile-de-France. In 2007, she sang Norina (Don Pasquale) at the San Marino Opera Theater and was subsequently engaged for the role of Zerlina (Don Giovanni), which she sang in Montpellier in 2008, in Metz and Rouen in 2009. Her operatic repertoire includes: Giulio Cesare (Cleopatra), Rinaldo (Armida), Le Nozze di Figaro (Susanna), Così fan tutte (Despina and Fiordiligi), The Snow Maiden (Snegurotchka), Les Pêcheurs de perles (Leïla), Gounod’s Roméo et Juliette (Juliette), L’Elisir d’amore (Adina), Cavalli's La Calisto, Orfeo ed Euridice (Euridice).
Anna Kasyan regularly performs in concert and recital around the world: Carnegie Hall in New York, Grand Théâtre in Geneva, Ermitage and Philharmonic Hall in Saint-Petersburg, Théâtre Comédie des Champs-Élysées and Théâtre Marigny Robert Hossein in Paris, Herkulessaal in Munich, Palais des Beaux-Arts in Brussels, Vlaamse Opera, Opéra de Québec, Opéra de Rouen. She has performed in concert series also in Zurich, Liège, Osnabrück, Basel, Warsaw, Siena, Pamplona, Pretoria, Madrid, Bruges and Montpellier. She sang in Germany on a tour with the German Radio Philharmonic as well as in Belgium with La Petite Bande.
Her concert repertoire includes: Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater, Handel’s Dixit Dominus, Bach’s Magnificat, Haydn’s Die Schöpfung, Rossini’s Petite Messe Solennelle and Stabat Mater, Mozart’s Requiem, Mendelssohn’s Symphony n.2 Lobgesang, Albert’s Die Seejungfräulein and Canteloube’s Chants d’Auvergne. In 2007, Eric de Belleval wrote for her a theatre play called Contretemps, whose creation took place at the Salle Cortot in Paris.
Anna Kasyan has won awards in the greatest international singing competitions: Renata Tebaldi (2nd prize); Adami-Corradetti - 2006 (Lyric revelation); Vibrarte International Music Competition (1st prize) and International Opera Competition of the Strasbourg Music Festival (Grand Prize) in 2009; Victoires de la musique classique (Lyric revelation) in 2010; Concours de chant de Toulouse (3rd prize) in 2010.
Anna Kasyan holds on to her roots and to her musical culture. Beautiful pages of Armenian, Georgian, and Russian music are very much present in her repertoire. She has given a recital to present this very repertoire at the Rouen Opera for the “Voix du Monde” series.
