Baiba Skride
 
Baiba Skride studied under Petru Munteanu at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Rostock. She won First Prize at the Queen Elisabeth Competition in 2001. This season, she performs with the Berliner Philharmoniker, the Münchner Philharmoniker, the New York Philharmonic and the Oregon Symphony, among others. An internationally renowned chamber musician, she regularly plays as a duo with her sister Lauma Skride and is one of the founding members of the Skride Quartet. Her prolific discography includes all Mozart’s concertos with the Swedish Chamber Orchestra, Bartók’s concertos with the WDR Sinfonieorchester conducted by Eivind Aadland, a disc featuring music by Bernstein, Korngold and Rózsa with the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra and the Tampere Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Santtu-Matias Rouvali, and the debut album of the Skride Quartet. This year, a recording of Shostakovich’s concertos with the Boston Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Andris Nelsons, will be released by Deutsche Grammophon.
