VIOLIN 2001 : Laureate
After graduating from Moscow's Central Music School in 1994, Boris Brovtsyn entered the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory where he studied with Maya Glezarova. During his time there he became a laureate of international competitions, such as Georg Kulenkampf (1994, Cologne), Transnet (1996, Pretoria) and Yehudi Menuhin (1998), before graduating with top honours in 1999. In 2001 he was a finalist at the Queen Elisabeth Violin Competition and won the 2001 Reuters Prize. The following year he won the Tibor Varga International Violin Competition.

Boris Brovtsyn made his UK debut in 1998 with the BBC Philharmonic conducted by Rumon Gamba. He became a student of David Takeno at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in 2000 and since then has been spending most of his time in the UK. In 2004 he won the GSMD´s highest award, the Gold Medal (past winners include Jacqueline du´Pre, Tasmin Little and Bryn Terfel). He now is a violin teacher himself at the Guildhall School.

As a soloist, Boris Brovtsyn has worked with Yuri Bashmet, Gerd Albrecht, Yan Pascal Tortelier, Gilbert Varga, Alexander Lazarev, Vassily Sinaisky, Vladimir Fedoseev, Pavel Kogan, Marc Gorenstein and Arvo Volmer to name but a few. The orchestras he has played with include Orchestre Philharmonique de Monte-Carlo, Orchestre Philharmonique de Strasbourg, National Orchestra of Belgium, BBC Philharmonic, English Classical Players, Orchestre National de Lille, Nordwestdeutsche Philharmonie, Moscow State Chamber Orchestra, Sao Paulo Symphony Orchestra, Estonian Orchestra and the Moscow Soloists. He has performed at Verbier Festival, Lugano Festival, Edinburgh Festival, Oxford Chamber Music Festival, Ryedale Festival and Genius of the Violin Festival, among others.

Recently he has played with the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande in Geneva and Warsaw, the Orchestre Philharmonique de Liège, the Orchestra della Svizzera Italiana, the Rundfunk-Sinfonieorchester Berlin, the Utah Symphony Orchestra and he took part in the Jerusalem Chamber Music Festival. Future engagements include among others performances with the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra under Vassily Sinaisky, with the Chamber Orchestra of the Enescu at the Festival “George Enescu” in Bucharest, with the Sao Paulo Symphony Orchestra under Jakub Hrusa and a tour with the Warsaw Philharmonic under Antoni Wit.
