SINGING 2004 : Fifth Prize
Moldavian mezzo-soprano Diana Axentii commenced her violin and singing studies in her native country, at the University of Chisinàu, before perfecting her talents at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Lyon.

She won first prize in the Concours International de Chant de l’U.P.M.C.F. (Paris) in 2002. Later on, in 2003, she became a finalist in the Concours Montserrat Caballé (Andorra) and obtained third prize in the George Enescu Competition (Bucharest). In 2004, she won the Prix des Amis de l'Academie d'été of the Festival International d'Art Lyrique d'Aix-en-Provence and the Prix spécial de L'Academie at the International Verbier Music Festival.

In 2004, she sang the role of Speranza in Monteverdi’s Orfeo with the Atelier Lyrique de l’Opéra du Lyon and was also heard in the Acadamie du Festival d’Aix-en-Provence’s production of Purcell’s Dido and Æneas. She appeared in Julietta by Martinu at the Opéra National de Paris (Bastille) and in a concert entitled “Vienna at the Time of Lehàr” at the Opéra Comique. She joined the Atelier d’art lyrique de l’Opéra National de Paris in January 2005, with whom she sang Les Aveugles by Xavier Dayer, conducted by Guillaume Tournaire at the Théâtre Gérard Philippe de Saint-Denis.

More recently, Diana Axentii was Cherubino in The Marriage of Figaro at the operas of Nancy and Bordeaux, Martha in Frühlingserwachen, a work by Benoît Mernier at the Monnaie in Brussels and in Strasbourg, Sélysette in Ariane et Barbe Bleue at the Opéra National de Paris and on tour in Japan, Clotilde in Norma in Avignon, Vichy and Monte Carlo, Bersi in Andrea Chénier in Nancy and Deutsche Oper in Berlin, Didon in Dido and Æneas with the Aix-en-Provence festival, Anna Kennedy in Maria Stuarda at the Opéra Royal de Wallonie, Kitchen boy in Rusalka in Glyndebourne, Javotte in Manon in Saint-Etienne, Dorothée in Cendrillon in Marseille, in L’Enfant et les Sortilèges in Nancy and in Ariane et Barbe-Bleue at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam.

Additionally, she has appeared in a concert of Berlioz and Glück under Sylvain Cambreling at the Palais Garnier, Mozart’s Requiem in Antibes and in Berlioz’s Les Nuits d’Eté at the Paris Opera.

Among her projects, Le Comte Ory and Cléopâtre in Marseille, La Botte Secrète de Terrasse in Paris and on tour with the ensemble Les Brigands, Trouble in Tahiti and L'Enfant et les Sortilèges at Rouen Opera, La Traviata at Monte-Carlo and Rusalka at Opéra de Paris.
