SINGING 2004 : Laureate
Korean bass Hye-Soo Sonn has studied singing at the Seoul National University, Universität der Künste Berlin and the Hochschule für Musik in Dresden. He has won the Mozart Wettbewerb Salzburg and the Maria Callas competition in Athens. Having debuted in Nürnberg and Kiel, he is a member of the ensemble of the Wiesbaden Staatstheater since 2007/2008.

On the opera stage he appears as Colline (La Bohème), Ferando (Il Trovatore), Raimondo (Lucia di Lammermoor), Méphistophéles (Faust, Gounod), Alidoro (La Cenerentola), Sparafucile (Rigoletto), Leporello (Don Giovanni) and in the title roles of Le Nozze di Figaro and Don Quijote.

In concert Hye-Soo Sonn has performed at the Salzburger Mozarteum Mozartwoche under the baton of Dennis Russell Davies, at the Olympus Festival in St. Petersburg, and in recital in Tokyo, Hongkong, Bordeaux and Brussels. Directed by Myung-Hoon Chung he sang in Beethoven's 9th Symphony at an open air concert in Seoul. He participates in the choir concerts of the Hessisches Staatsorchester, notably in Verdi's Requiem and Haydn's Schöpfung.
