Konstantin Shushakov began his musical studies at the Russian Academy of Theatre Arts under Yuriy Udalov, before going on to further studies, starting in 2009, at Galina Vishnevskaya’s Centre for Young Opera Singers and also, with Diane Zola and Dmitry Vdovin, in the context of the Bolshoi Theatre’s Young Artist Programme. In 2008 he took part in the First International Pavel Lisitsian Baritone Competition in Moscow and in the Eighth International Rimsky-Korsakov Young Opera Singers Competition in St Petersburg. At the Bolshoi Theatre he has played the roles of Dancair (Carmen, conducted by E. Joel-Ornal) and Schaunard (La Bohème, under A. Allemandi); at the Tchaikovsky Concert Hall he has sung the roles of Paris (Roméo et Juliette, under B. Pionnier) and Herman (Les Contes d’Hoffmann, under L. Kampellone), both in 2010, and in Brahms’s Deutsches Requiem, conducted by M. Pletnev, in 2011.
