VIOLIN 2012 : Laureate
Nancy Zhou started to learn the violin at the age of 4. She was taught by her father, Zhou Long, and by Miriam Fried at the New England Conservatory (Boston). Since 2008 she has had a scholarship from the Anne-Sophie Mutter Foundation, which has made it possible for her to give numerous recitals in Europe. Since last year she has performed with the St Petersburg Philharmonic, the Baden-Baden Philharmonie, the Helsinki Philharmonic, the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic, and the San Antonio Symphony, among other orchestras. In 2009 she won the Johansen International Competition (Washington), and the China International Violin Competition; in 2010 she won the prize for best performance of the compulsory work in the Sibelius Competition.
