PIANO 2003 : Laureate
Russian pianist Sergey Sobolev received his training as a musician in Moscow, first at the school attached to the Academy Music College of Moscow Conservatory, then at the Academy, and finally at the Moscow State Conservatory, where he graduated.
He has garnered top prizes at many international piano competitions including first prize, 1997 Nicolai Rubinstein and Moscow School of Composers Competition (Moscow), third prize, 2000 Scriabin International Piano Competition (Moscow), fourth prize, 2007 Tchaikovsky International Piano Competition (Moscow) and is a laureate of the 2000 All-Russian Competition “The New Names” (Moscow). He has also received two prestigious awards, one a diploma from the President of the Russian Federation (Moscow, 1997) and the other the Youth Prize Triumph (Moscow, 2003).
Sergey Sobolev has performed with orchestras in Russia, Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, France, the United States, and South Korea under the baton of such conductors as Gilbert Varga, Georges Octors, Mark Gorenstein, Valery Poliansky, and Anatoly Levin. He has recorded two CD’s with works of Beethoven, Chopin, Scriabin, and Prokofiev.
