Born in Seoul, Tae-Hyung Kim studied with Choong-Mo Kang at the Korean National University of Arts and with Elisso Virsaladze and Helmut Deutsch at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater München. He also trained at the Moscow State Conservatory and is now studying Chamber Music with Christoph Poppen and Friedemann Berger in München again. He made his international debut in 2004 when he won the City of Porto International Piano Competition. He is a laureate of many other international piano competitions. 

Tae-Hyung Kim has expanded his activities by performing with prominent orchestras including Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Russian National Philharmonic, Tokyo Symphony Orchestra, Kioi Sinfonietta Tokyo, National Orchestra of Belgium and Orchestre National de France, and performed with renowned conductors such as Vladimir Spivakov, Marin Alsop, Emil Tabakov, Vakhtang Matchavariani, among many others. He also had appearances with leading Korean orchestras including KBS Symphony Orchestra, Korean Symphony Orchestra, Korean Chamber Orchestra, Bucheon Philharmonic Orchestra, Daejeon Philharmonic Orchestra, and Wonju Philharmonic Orchestra.

Tae-Hyung Kim made his solo debut at the Kumho Prodigy Concert in 2000, and from then he was invited to give recitals for the Kumho Rising Star Series, Yamaha Rising Artist Series, and Hoam Rising Star Series in Seoul. He has established his presence in Europe through several solo recitals in Belgium including the Bruges SCOOP concert series, a recital at Handelsbeurs in Gent, or at Cultuurcentrum in Mechelen and Kortrijk Festival van Vlaanderen. He was also invited at Yokohama International Piano Concert, Florence International Music Festival and Euro Music Festival in Leipzig. He has played in renowned concert venues including Salle Pleyel, Salle Gaveau, Salle Cortot in Paris, Gewandhaus in Leipzig, Palais des Beaux-Arts in Brussels, Concertgebouw in Bruges, Dom Muziki in Moscow, Philharmonie in St. Petersburg, and Esplanade Concert Hall in Singapore.

As a devoted chamber musician, in 2013, he formed ‘Trio Gaon’, with violinist Ji-Hye Lee and cellist Hendrik Blumenroth. He is also a valued member of the Kumho Asiana Soloists along with many other promising musicians of Korea. He has appeared frequently at various chamber music festivals including Festival de Musica Credomatic, Great Mountains International Music Festival, Seoul Spring Festival of Chamber Music, and Ditto Festival.
