The bass-baritone Ao Li studied singing at Shandong Normal University. He has been a member of the Merola Program and of the Adler Program at the San Francisco Opera, where his roles included Lorenzo in I Capuleti e i Montecchi, Ascanio Petrucci in Lucrezia Borgia, Don Basilio and Fiorello in Il Barbiere di Siviglia, and Ben Weatherstaff in the world premiere of Nolan Gasser’s The Secret Garden. At the National Centre for the Performing Arts in Beijing, he has appeared in the title roles in Le Nozze di Figaro and Don Pasquale. He has also performed at the Seoul Arts Center, at the Spoleto Festival USA, at the Lincoln Center Festival, and at the Macau International Music Festival. Ao Li is a laureate of the Placido Domingo Operalia World Opera Competition, the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions, and the Mt. Fuji International Opera Competition of Shizuoka.
