Bruno Philippe is a graduate of the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse in Paris, where he was taught by Jérôme Pernoo. He went on to specialist studies at the Mozarteum in Salzburg under Clemens Hagen. Since 2014, he has been studying as a young soloist at the Kronberg Academy under Frans Helmerson. He was awarded Third Prize and the audience prize at the ARD competition in Munich in 2014 and special prizes at the Feuermann competition in Berlin in 2014 and the Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow in 2015. In 2017, he was a laureate of the prestigious Queen Elisabeth Competition in Brussels. In 2018, he was a laureate of the Victoires de la Musique Classique in the ‘Révélation soliste instrumental’ category.

He has already performed as a soloist with the Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks, the Münchener Kammerorchester, the Orchestre National du Capitole de Toulouse, and the Frankfurt Radio Symphony, under conductors such as Christoph Eschenbach, Bruno Mantovani, and Michel Tabachnik. He has also appeared at the Festival Pablo Casals in Prades, the Festival de Pâques in Aix-en-Provence, La Folle Journée de Nantes, the Rheingau Musik Festival, the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Festival, the Festival Radio France Occitanie Montpellier, La Roque d’Anthéron, the Cello Biennale in Amsterdam, the Mozartfest Würzburg, the BR studio in Munich, and the Schwetzinger SWR-Festspiele.

His first album, devoted to the Brahms sonatas and recorded with the pianist Tanguy de Williencourt for the Evidence Classic label, was released in 2015. In 2017, he joined the Harmonia Mundi label and brought out a new album of Beethoven and Schubert, once again with Tanguy de Williencourt. In 2016, he was awarded the Safran Foundation for Music Prize. Bruno Philippe plays a Carlo Tononi cello, on loan from the Beare’s International Violin Society.
