First round 2022 : Bryan Cheng
Bryan Cheng won first prize at the UNISA International Strings Competition in Pretoria and second prize and the audience prize at the Geneva International Music Competition. He first performed in a recital at Carnegie Hall at the age of fourteen. He is currently pursuing his Master's degree at the Universität der Künste Berlin in the studio of Jens Peter Maintz. Also in Berlin, he will make his debut with the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester at the Philharmonie in Berlin in June 2023. Bryan Cheng has performed as a soloist with the Johannesburg Philharmonic Orchestra, the Orchestre Symphonique de Montréal, the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, the Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra, and the National Arts Centre Orchestra Ottawa, the National Taiwan Symphony Orchestra, the Newfoundland Symphony Orchestra and the Wiener Stadtorchester. As a chamber musician, he performs as a member of CelloFellos, the Cheng² Duo, together with his sister Silvie Cheng, and with musicians such as Christian Tetzlaff, Lars Vogt, and Antje Weithaas. With the Cheng² Duo he has recorded three albums with the Audite label, Russian Legends, Violonchelo del Fuego and Violoncelle Français.
