Belgian soprano Charlotte Wajnberg is a laureate of the Queen Elisabeth International Music Competition 2018 where she also won the Audience Prize (Klara/Canvas).
She was internationally praised for her performances of 20th century repertoire, and especially for the Second Viennese School. Her interpretations of contemporary music have been widely acclaimed. With Brussels Philharmonic, she recorded the world premiere of the orchestral song cycle The intimacy of distance under the baton of composer Robert Groslot for the label Naxos. The songs are dedicated to Mr. and Ms. Wajnberg. Other contemporary composers are working on compositions for Charlotte Wajnberg. Annelies Van Parys has composed a song “Medea” for Ms Wajnberg, Annelien Van Wauwe (clarinet) and the Carousel string quartet.
As the Artistic Director of Antwerp LiedFest, Charlotte Wajnberg is committed to investing in the art of song and vocal chamber music, with an emphasis on the Belgian repertoire: songs are being (re)discovered and collaborations with contemporary Belgian composers being set up.
Ms. Wajnberg made her debut at the Royal Opera House La Monnaie (Brussels, Belgium) at the age of 21 in Massenet's Cendrillon, a production directed by Laurent Pelly and conducted by maestro Alain Altinoglu. She has performed as a soloist in Mahler's 4th Symphony, as well as in Mozart’s Krönungsmesse, Bach’s Weihnachtsoratorium and in Boccherini’s and Beck’s Stabat Mater. Within the opera repertoire, she has performed the roles of Papagena (Die Zauberflöte, W.A. Mozart) and Barbarina (Le Nozze di Figaro, W.A. Mozart), Mandane (Artaserse, J.C. Bach). Charlotte Wajnberg has performed at various venues, such as Carnegie Hall (New York, USA), the Veronica Hagman Concert Hall (Danbury, Connecticut), the Crystal Hall (Rogaška Slatina, Slovenia), deSingel (Antwerp, Belgium), Concertgebouw (Bruges, Belgium), Amuz (Antwerpen, Belgium), Flemish Opera House (Antwerp & Ghent) and many others.
As a Lieder interpreter, she frequently performs with pianist Aaron Wajnberg. The duo is also often invited to give Lieder masterclasses to young talents, such as at the Western Connecticut State University in the USA.
She has worked with different chamber music ensembles and orchestras, including Quatuor Voce, Quatuor Van Kuijk, Carousel Ensemble, Südwestdeutsches Kammerochester Pforzheim, Brussels Philharmonic and La Monnaie Symphony Orchestra.
Recordings have been made for RTBF, Musiq3, Klara, Canvas and France 3.
Ms. Wajnberg studied under the guidance of Lucienne Van Deyck.
