Giorgio Cambissa (1921-1998) studied composition with Hnatiszyn, Levi and Ghedini and orchestra direction with Guarnieri, Zecchi, Von Karajan and Celibidache. As a conductor he has worked with soloists such as Backaus, Gieseking, Grumiaux, Cortot and Géza Anda. He taught at the Conservatories of Trieste, Genova, Parma and Milan and published two didactic works : Armonia complementare and Elementi di analisi formale (Ed. Ciglia, Genova 1957). From 1962 until 1979 he was Director of the Conservatory of Bolzano and Artistic Director of the Concert Society and International Piano Competition "Ferruccio Busoni". He was a President and a member of jury of many Italian and international music competitions. From 1980 until 1989 he headed the S. Cecilia Conservatory in Rome.
