Ikuyo Nakamichi

A first prize winner at the 1986 Geneva International Music Competition and the 1987 Mendelssohn Competition in Berlin, Ikuyo Nakamichi has a broad repertory that ranges from Classic to Romantic. She has released 15 CDs to date and performed as a soloist with the London Mozart Players (conducted by Gunter Pichler), the Bavarian Radio and Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestras (conducted by Lorin Maazel), the Hungarian State Symphony Orchestra (conducted by Ken-Ichiro Kobayashi), the English Chamber Orchestra (conducted by Pinchas Zukerman) and the Lithuanian Chamber Orchestra (conducted by Saulius Sodeckis).
Ikuyo Nakamichi's duo concert and chamber appearances include performances with clarinetist Richard Stoltzman, violinist Josef Suk, the Berlin Brandis String Quartet, the Cherubini String Quartet and the Berlin Philharmonic Octet.
Abroad, she has toured Europe with the Japan Shinsei Symphony Orchestra and North America twice with the Japan Philharmonic Orchestra. She has performed at Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall, St. Petersburg Philharmonic Hall and Berlin Philharmonic Hall.
In Japan, she has performed Bach, Beethoven and Brahms extensively in concert, including all of Beethoven's piano sonatas. Her annual music appreciation concert series, "Ikuyo Nakamichi's Music School," has become a perennial favorite and won her a reputation as an innovator in the art of introducing the joy of music to audiences. In April, 2000, the "Music School" went on the road to several Asian countries under sponsorship of the Japan Foundation.
With a technical proficiency that is nearly flawless, Ikuyo Nakamichi's warmly expressive interpretations have won her a place as one of Japan's most important pianists.
