Polish soprano Iwona Sobotka graduated from the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music in Warsaw and continued her studies with Tom Krause at the Escuela Superior de Música Reina Sofía in Madrid. Her awards include first prizes at the East & West Artists International Auditions in New York, the Warsaw Polish Art Song Competion and the Paderewski Competion in Bydgoszcz.

She has performed all over Europe, in the Americas, Japan, visiting such prestigious venues as the Vienna Konzerthaus, Carnegie Hall, Wigmore Hall, Salle Pleyel, the Centre for Fine Arts in Brussels, the Auditorio Nacional in Madrid, Suntory Hall in Tokyo, and at the Shostakovich Grand Philharmonic Hall in St. Petersburg.

Iwona Sobotka has worked with distinguished conductors including Sir Colin Davis, Sir Simon Rattle, Sylvain Cambreling, Gabriel Chmura, Thomas Hengelbrock, Jacek Kaspszyk, Yoel Levi, Jerzy Maksymiuk, Massimo Zanetti and Antoni Wit. She has performed with the Orchestre de l’Opéra national de Paris, Wiener Symphoniker, City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, Orchestre Philharmonique du Luxembourg, Orchestre Symphonique de la Monnaie, Orchestra della Fondazione Arturo Toscanini, Real Orquesta Sinfónica de Sevilla, Staatskapelle Weimar, the St. Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra as well as all of the major Polish orchestras.

Widely acknowledged for her interpretations of Polish vocal repertoire - in particular the works of Karol Szymanowski - she has participated in a “Szymanowski Focus” at London’s Wigmore Hall curated by Piotr Anderszewski. Recordings include a contribution to the complete collection of Szymanowski songs released by Channel Classics. On a subsequent release for EMI Classics, she recorded the Songs of a Fairytale Princess cycle with Sir Simon Rattle and the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra. She has also recorded Szymanowski’s orchestral songs for the Polish Radio with the Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra. Her recording of Chopin songs, is her latest contribution to The Chopin`s National Edition released by BeArton label.

Recent notable debuts include the title role of Stanisilaw Moniuszko’s Halka at the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival, a concert tour with Vier Letzte Lieder by Strauss with Orchestre National d´Île-de-France, apperance at the Le Folle Journee de Nantes. She has also premiered the Bruno Dozza work commisioned for Quincena Musical de San Sebastian, text by Eduardo Chillida.

Future engagements include recordings of Korngold Songs with pianist Reinild Mees, Deutsches Motet by Strauss with Rundfunkchor Berlin and performance of Szymanowski’s Litany To the Virgin Mary in Musikverein with Viener Symphoniker.
