COMPOSITION 1995 : First Prize
Born in 1949 in Romford (Great London), John Weeks studied composition at the Royal College of Music with John Lambert, from 1968 to 1971. He won the Queen Elisabeth Composition Competition in 1982 with Five Litanies for Orchestra and in 1995 with Requiescat. He also won the Lili Boulanger Memorial Award at the University of Boston in 1983, with Solitude and Return for women's chorus and orchestra, and then the Lontano/Finzi Composition Prize in London in 1986, with Night Scenes for six players. John Weeks has never worked as a professional musician. He composes in his spare time.
