VIOLIN 2012 : Laureate
After studying at the Prague Conservatory, Josef Spacek went on to further studies under Ida Kavafian and Jaime Laredo at the Curtis Institute of Music and Itzhak Perlman at the Juilliard School. In 2009 he won the Michael Hill International Violin Competition and in 2008 he won Third Prize at the Carl Nielsen International Violin Competition. He has performed as a soloist in Asia, Europe, and the United States, with the Philadelphia Orchestra, the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra, the Prague Philharmonic Orchestra, the Auckland Philharmonic Orchestra, the Brno Philharmonic Orchestra, the Kansas City Symphony, the Queensland Symphony, the Czech Chamber Orchestra, the Bohuslav Martinu Philharmonic, and the Russian Chamber Philharmonic. His first CD is devoted to the solo violin sonatas of Ysaÿe (2006). He serves as concertmaster of the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra.
