PIANO 2007 : Laureate
Miyeon Lee was born in Seoul, South Korea, in 1982 and took her first piano lessons at the age of four. She studied with Soo-jung Shin, Hye-jeon Lee and Dae-jin Kim. At age 11 she made her debut with the Seoul Philharmonie Orchestra and as a chamber musician with the Yewon orchestra at age 12 she performed the Beethoven Triple concerto in five cities in Japan.
From 1998 to 2004 she was a student with Choong-mo Kang at the Korean National University of the Arts, where she was a recipient of numerous scholarships each year. During her student years, Miyeon Lee was awarded several prizes in various competitions in Korea, such as the Grand prize in the Segaeilbo competition, Hangukilbo competition, and the first prize in the Joonangilbo competition and the KBS (Korea Broad Casting) competition. As a winner of the KBS competition, she performed with the KBS Orchestra.
In 2004 Miyeon Lee moved to Germany to study with Pascal Devoyon at the Berlin University of the Arts. She received scholarships from the Elrich-Andreas Studienstiftung. During her studies in Germany she won the Artur-Schnabel piano competition, 4th prize in the Porto International competition, a Diploma in the Geneva International competition in Swiss, 5th prize in the Maria Canals International competition in Spain and a special prize in the Sydney International competition. In 2010 she got the 3rd prize of the Maria Callas Grand Prix and in 2011 the 1st prize of the Ile de France International competition. She also won the 13th Euterpe International competition and the 14th Jose Roca International competition.
Miyeon Lee has worked with orchestras such as the KBS orchestra in Seoul, Berlin Sinfonie Orchestra (Berliner Philharmonie), Berliner Symphoniker (UDK Konzertsaal), Suwon Philharmonie (Seoul Arts Center), Mediterraneo Sinfonie Orchestra (Palau de la Musica) and the National Orchestra of Belgium (Brussels Centre for Fine Arts).
In recital, she has performed in many European cities, among them Berlin, Paris, Geneva, Brussels, Athens, and in Tokyo, Seoul, San Francisco and Sydney, in halls such as the Sydney Opera House, San Fransisco Conservatory, Tokyo University, Steinwayhaus, Leipziger Hochschule, Korean Culturcenter Berlin, Cziffra Fondation, Jose Iturbi Conservatory.
Miyeon Lee has attended masterclass with Arie Vardi, Peter Frankl, Piotr Paleczny, Jacques Rouvier, Vladimir Krainev, John O'conor, Heinrich Schiff, Martin Canin, John Perry and Natalia Troll.
