After studying at the Mount Royal University Conservatory in Calgary under William van der Sloot, Nikki Chooi went on to further studies at the Curtis Institute of Music (Philadelphia) under Joseph Silverstein and Ida Kavafian. First laureate of the Klein International Strings Competition (San Francisco) in 2009, he has also won a number of prizes at national competitions in Canada, as well as a special prize at the Tchaikovsky International Competition in Moscow (2007). He has performed as a soloist with the Orchestre Symphonique de Montreal, the Victoria Symphony, the Santa Cruz Orchestra, and the Edmonton Symphony, among others, and has given numerous recitals in Canada and the United States (Marlboro Music Festival, Ravinia Festival, and Music from Angelfire).
