PIANO 2013 : Laureate
Roope Gröndahl first studied at the Helsinki Conservatory, before attending the Sibelius Academy, where he studied under Matti Raekallio and, later, Liisa Pohjola. In 2014, he completed his studies at the Royal Academy of Music in London, under Christopher Elton. He has performed with the leading Finnish orchestras (Radio Symphony Orchestra, Tampere Philharmonic, and Lahti Symphony Orchestra) and is a regular guest at chamber music festivals in Finland and Norway. He has given a number of recitals in London (St John’s Smith Square, Steinway Hall), in Europe, in China, and in the United States. He is a laureate of the Maj Lind (Helsinki, 2007) and Eurovision Young Musicians (Vienna, 2008) competitions and has been awarded the Harriet Cohen Bach Prize (London, 2012). An active chamber musician, Roope Gröndahl has performed with artists such as Pekka Kuusisto, Ilya Gringolts and Steven Isserlis at the Helsinki Festival and Kuhmo Chamber Music Festival, and received guidance from Emanuel Ax and Ralf Gothóni.
