Yekwon Sunwoo

After studying in Korea with Kim Sun-Wha and Shin Min-Ja until 2005, Sunwoo Yekwon went on to study at the Curtis Institute with Seymour Lipkin. While still very young, he gave a series of recitals in his homeland ; he has since performed at prestigious European and U.S. venues, including the Salle Cortot in Paris in 2008 and Carnegie Hall in New York in 2009. He has won numerous prizes in Korean competitions ; in 2008 he won First Prize in the Florida International Piano Competition ; in 2009 he won First Prize in the Interlaken Classics International Piano Competition in Berne and in the California International Young Artists Competition. He toured Central America in 2007, at the request of the Kumho Asiana Cultural Foundation. He has played chamber music with celebrated artists such as Roberto Diaz, Ida Kavafian, and Peter Wiley.
