Download the schedule on the bottom of the page or follow the link below to the calendar of the first round (as from Saturday 7 May).

Live video streaming
Thanks to RTBF, VRT and our partner Proximus, you can again follow the first round via live streaming on our website, and on demand. Rendez-vous as from Monday 9 May at 3pm via this link.

66 candidates
As some of the 68 candidates have withdrawn, there are 66 cellists who will participate in the first round. It is important to remember that these young musicians take part in the competition as individuals and not as representatives of a nation. You can read more on this subject in our statement concerning the situation in Ukraine. Find out more about the candidates on their personal pages.

In the first round recital, each cellist performs a sonata by Boccherini with cello accompaniment, the first mouvement of the Sonata for solo cello by Ysaÿe and a modern work with piano accompaniment, chosen from Phantasiëstuck by Paul Hindemith, Nocturne by André Jolivet and the first two movements of Pohádka by Leoš Janáček. Their programmes will be added to their personal pages on this website and the first round calendar on Saturday 7 May.

Jury and accompanists
The performances of the candidates will be judged by an eminent jury panel of teachers and soloists, presided by Gilles Ledure. On the podium they can count not only on the accompaniment of pianists, but also of the official cellists of the Competition. Find out more about them on the jury members page and the accompanists page

Proclamation of the semi-finalists
Due to the technical preparations for the semi-final, the first round proclamation will not be live streamed. The names of the 24 semi-finalists will be announced on our website after midnight on Saturday 14 May.

You can relive the performances of the candidates on our website the next day. They will also be available as podcasts on the website of Musiq3 and the videos will be posted on Auvio.
