Focus on the laureates of Piano 2025: Vitaly Starikov

Since gaining international recognition as a laureate of the 2021 Queen Elisabeth Competition, Vitaly Starikov has continued to captivate audiences and juries alike with his expressive performances. His first solo-album is going to be released on the KNS Classical label.
In 2023, he won Sixth Prize at the Sydney International Piano Competition, where he was also awarded two special prizes: “The Best Accompanist” and “The Best Cello Sonata”, highlighting his versatility and sensitivity as a musician. That same year, he won the WPTA Spain International Piano Competition, along with special awards for the best performances of works by Romantic and Russian composers.
Additionally, he was recognised as the Best Performer of a Contemporary Piece at the 2023 International Jaén Competition in Spain. Further exploring his interest in contemporary performance, he gave the American première of a composition for two pianos with Carter Johnson at the New Music New Haven festival; The Chiaroscurist: Five Contrasts for Pitch Black Night by young composer Lily Koslow, commissioned by the Luba Zuk Piano Duo Composition Prize at McGill University.
In 2024, Vitaly Starikov continued his winning streak, earning Third Prize at the Neue Sterne International Piano Competition in Germany. Just recently, he has won a joint First Prize at the XVI Chopin International Piano Competition in Hartford CT (United States).
In the past years, he has graced stages across the globe, including the Sydney Opera House, the Queen Elisabeth Hall and the Great Hall of the Moscow Conservatory. His recital and chamber music engagements have taken him to countries like Austria, Slovakia, Israel, Cyprus, Italy, France, Belgium and Malaysia. Additionally, he has been involved in various festivals and concert series, such as the Artist Series Concerts of Sarasota, New Music New Haven and Symphony in C’s Virtuosi Series in the United States, Music Circles in Belgium and Pinè Musica in Italy, further establishing his presence in the classical music scene.
Vitaly Starikov is currently pursuing his Artist Diploma Degree at Yale School of Music in the studio of Prof. Boris Berman. His first solo-album is going to be released on the KNS Classical label and will be available on all streaming platforms. It will contain Chopin’s Twelve Etudes op.25, among other works.
