Video preselection
No less than 289 pianists aged between 18 and 31 years old have applied for this 21st piano edition. Each of them had recorded four works for the video preselection round: a fugue from the Die Kunst der Fuge by Bach, a sonata by Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, or Schubert, a Chopin étude, and a work of choice.

Preselection jury
The preselection took place behind closed doors at the end of January. An international jury consisting of François-Frédéric Guy, Daejin Kim, Momo Kodama, Julien Libeer, Jan Michiels, Jean-Claude Vanden Eynden and Boyan Vodenitcharov reunited under the presidency of Gilles Ledure. The names of the jury members of the public competition rounds will be announced at a later date.

Booking
The order in which the candidates will appear in the first public round will be announced after the drawing of lots, on Friday night 2 May. Tickets for all competition round and the laureates' concerts at Flagey and the Centre for Fine Arts are already on sale.
