Prelude to the National Holiday

On Saturday 20 July at 8 pm, the festivities surrounding the National Day will start with a free concert. Soprano Sumi Hwang, First Laureate of the 2014 Queen Elisabeth Competition, will perform with the Belgian National Orchestra under the baton of Antony Hermus. The King and Queen will traditionally attend the concert.

There are no more tickets available. They have been distributed by the Chancellery of the Prime Minister.

The concert will be broadcast live on Musiq3 and Klara and slightly delayed on La Trois and Auvio (at 8:10 pm). VRT CANVAS will broadcast the prelude on 21 July at 2 pm and from then on it can also be viewed on VRT MAX.

The concert will begin with an orchestral prelude from Lohengrin by Richard Wagner. Soprano Sumi Hwang will perform three Lieder by Richard Strauss, two arias from Gianni Schicchi and La Bohème by Giacomo Puccini and another from Faust by Charles Gounod. The orchestra will also play an interlude from Le Villi by Puccini, and will close this concert with La Valse by Maurice Ravel.

This concert is organised by the Queen Elisabeth Competition, in collaboration with the Belgian National Orchestra and Bozar, thanks to the support of the FPS Chancellery of the Prime Minister and the National Lottery.
