Unpublished imposed works for the Violin Competition

For each instrumental session, the Queen Elisabeth Competition calls on two composers to create the unpublished compulsory works. This year, Charlotte Bray has written the semi-final work for violin and piano, and Thierry Escaich the work for violin and orchestra to be performed in the final.

The candidates receive the semi-final work upon the acceptance of their application. As for the finalists, they only receive the score one week before the date of their performance at the Brussels Centre for Fine Arts. During that week, they are secluded in the Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel, to prepare for the final.

Semi-final : Charlotte Bray
Her work The Sun and Her Flowers will be performed by the 24 semi-finalists during their recital, from 13 to 18 May at Studio 4 of Flagey. World première on Monday 13 May at 3pm.

Final : Thierry Escaich
The imposed work in the final, a commission made possible thanks to the generous support of Mr. Rudolf Schülgen, will be performed by the twelve finalists from 27 May to 1 June at the Brussels Centre for Fine Arts. They will be accompanied by the Belgian National Orchestra under the baton of Antony Hermus. We will announce the name of the work on the day of the world première, on Monday 27 May.
