The oldest piano recordings
The musical performances of the Queen Elisabeth Competition’s laureates were recorded from the very beginning and often broadcast live via the then National Institute of Belgium for Radio Broadcasting (NIR). The Competition was given so much radio broadcasting time that it quickly became a popular radio event that was also broadcast by the European Radio Union.
Our archives contain thousands of audio recordings of the Belgian national broadcasters VRT and RTBF. We have published almost 3.000 of them on our website, including very rare recordings dating back to the 1950s, the 1960s and the 1970s.
