CELLO 2017 : Fifth Prize
Born into a family of musicians, Ivan Karizna is a graduate of Jérôme Pernoo’s class at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse in Paris. At just 19 years of age, he won the Third Prize at the Tchaikovsky Competition in 2011. He won the first prizes in two other international competitions, the Umanitaria in Milan in 2015 and the Luis Sigall in Chile in 2016. He has appeared as a soloist with several famous orchestras, including the Mariinsky Theatre Symphony Orchestra, the St Petersburg Philharmonic, the Orchestre Philharmonique de Strasbourg, and the Slovenian Radio Symphony Orchestra. Ivan Karizna has taken part in many festivals, including the Yuri Bashmet International Music Festival and the Festival International de Colmar. Since 2016, he has been studying at the Kronberg Academy, under Frans Helmerson.
