CELLO 2017 : Laureate
Maciej Kulakowski started playing the cello at the age of six with Jadwiga Ewald in Gdansk. He is currently studying at the Universitat der Kunste in Berlin under Wolfgang Emanuel Schmidt and at the Music Academy of Gdansk with Marcin Zdunig. In 2015, he won Second Prize at the TONALi Competition and First Prize and a special prize at the International Witold Lutosławski Competition. In 2011, he performed in the inaugural concert at the European Centre for Music in Lusławice, with Krzysztof Penderecki conducting. He has taken part in masterclasses given by renowned musicians such as Mischa Maisky, Franz Helmerson, Truls Mørk, Gary Hoffman, Philippe Muller, Jens Peter Maintz, and Ivan Monighetti. With the Clarinet Trio, Maciej Kułakowski won First Prize at the International Johannes Brahms Chamber Music Competition in 2015 in Gdansk.
