PIANO 2003 : Second Prize
Born in 1986, Wen-Yu Shen entered Chengdu Conservatory (China) at the age of eight. In 1998, he moved to Germany to continue his training with Gunther Hauer (Karlsruhe) and then Karl-Heinz Kämmerling (Hanover). At the age of 11, he won first prize at the Shanghai Competition and two years later first prize at the Seiler Piano Competition for Young Pianists in Kitzingen. He has performed regularly in recital.
Winning second prize at the 2003 Queen Elisabeth Competition has resulted in many proposals for concerts in Belgium and across Europe. He goes on to record a CD of Russian music (Rachmaninov and Stravinsky) with the Cyprès label.
In 2005, Wen-Yu Shen wins First Prize at the Rachmaninoff International Piano Competition in Los Angeles. He returns to China and continues to concertize around the world.
In 2008 he starts to study with pianist Liu Shikun and piano pedagogue Guangren Zhou. He releases a recording of Chinese folk songs, Chinese Sights and Sounds, and wins first prize at the first CCTV Piano & Violin Competition in Beijing, China.
Currently, he is an Associate Professor of Piano at Shenzhen University and Resident Pianist of the Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra. He now also studies with conductor En Shao and composer Zhang Zhao.
