Yo Kitamura
 
CELLO 2026 : Fifth Prize
Yo Kitamura is currently studying at the Universität der Künste Berlin under Jens Peter Maintz and pursues the Soloist Diploma at the Toho Gakuen School of Music under Tsuyoshi Tsutsumi. He has taken part in masterclasses with artists such as David Geringas, Philippe Muller and Nicolas Altstaedt. Among his awards are First Prize at the George Enescu, Pablo Casals and Johannes Brahms competitions, and Second Prize at the Khachaturian International Competition. He has performed with the Romanian National Radio Orchestra, Chamber Philharmonic Orchestra Pardubice and Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra, among others, and under such conductors as Manfred Honeck, Sebastian Weigle and Jonathan Bloxham. He is the recipient of the Saito Hideo Memorial Fund Award, Idemitsu Music Award and Prix Jean-Nicolas Firmenich of the Verbier Festival Academy.
