Who goes through to the semi-final?

On Saturday the 8th of May the chairman of the jury has announced the names of the pianists who go through to the semi-final! Due to the sanitary situation, we have limited the number of semi-finalists to twelve, instead of the usual 24.

The twelve semi-finalists of the 2021 piano competition are :

  • Su Yeon Kim, 26, Korea
  • Daumants Liepins, 26, Latvia
  • Aidan Mikdad, 19, Netherlands
  • Keigo Mukawa, 28, Japan
  • Sergei Redkin, 29, Russia
  • Tomoki Sakata, 27, Japan
  • Dmitry Sin, 26, Russia
  • Vitaly Starikov, 26, Russia
  • Marcel Tadokoro, 27, France
  • Yuki Yoshimi, 21, Japan
  • Xiaolu Zang, 21, China

Semi-final programme
The semi-final takes place from 10 until 15 May at Studio 4 of Flagey in Brussels, at 16:00 and 20:00. Exceptionnally, this year each semi-finalist will perform his Mozart concerto and recital on the same day. For the Mozart concerto the semi-finalists will be accompanied by the Orchestre royal de chambre de Wallonie, conducted by Frank Braley, who celebrates the 30th anniversary of his First Prize of the piano competition.
